Dr. Steve Sandoval

Steve SandovalSteve Sandoval, Ph.D., one of 2016 Education Week’s Leaders to Learn From, is currently serving as the Executive Director of Special Services for Westminster Public Schools – one of the largest school districts in the country implementing a true competency-based system district wide. With over 20 years as an educator, Dr. Sandoval began his career as a school-based therapist in a day treatment facility for students with emotional disabilities and as a behavioral specialist while also training as a school psychologist at University of Nebraska – Lincoln. After 5 years as a school psychologist, he accepted his first Director of Special Education role and continues in this line of work. Today, he is regarded as one of the foremost and respected special ed. Leaders in Colorado, serving on the State Director’s Leadership Team as well as chairing the Metro Special Ed. Director’s group. He has also served as a member of the Re-Inventing Special Education think-tank with the purpose of transforming special education to improve the lives of all children and youth with disabilities across the land
